I am replacing a regular light fixture in my house and the fixture I bought has a warning about installing in a house built before 1985 because of a risk of fire with the older wiring - and to consult a qualified electrician before installing. My house was built in 1968. What types of precautions must I take before installing this light fixture?

None, Your wiring is fine. They are just making sure you can't sue them because of bad wiring and installing their fixture on it.

As long as your house has copper wiring and not aluminum, you are probably fine.

hello Jc,
pardon the pun here but that little sticker or warning label they put in the lights is just a cover my azz. we install lights every day on homes that have wireing older than yours with no problem, we just always disregard them.
