220 to 110

Hi eveyone,

I need to convert a 220 plug from a bedroom ac to a 110 for air conditioner. I know that 220 has two hots and a ground. 110 has one hot and a ground. What color wires do I hook to the 110 plug?
The breaker is a double 30 amp which I guess I take out and replace with a 20 amp for a 110?
Will this work? Thanks, Jay

What size wire is at the existing recepticle? Hopefully since it had a 30A breaker protecting it before, it would be #10 wire. If so, then replace the 2pole 30A breaker with two individual pole 20A breakers. 120V has one hot, one neutral and a ground. So you will reconnect one of the old hot wires from the two pole breaker as a neutral in the panel.
