extending wiring for door bell/intercom

Hi all, complete electrical know-nothing here. I have a door bell/intercom wired from the front door to the bedroom. the insulated wire is loose in places and goes from room to room. I wanted to tack this loose wire against the trim along the walls and around the windows, but realized that it is not long enough to do so. How do I splice this thing open and maybe add an extension of wire without screwing everything up?

Because this is an inter-comm you may a have a cable with a certain number of "pairs"- 3 pairs would be 6 individual wires between the 2 points. Where is the bedroom relative to the front-door? Is there a basement/crawl-space under the front door and an attic/crawl-space over the bedroom?

the bedroom is down the hallway from the front door, it is a one floor condo. there is no crawl space and no attic.
