Question

I live in an apartment (I rent) and within the past month, I've noticed a strange clicking sound coming from one of the outlets in my bedroom. It doesn't occur 100% of the time, but when it starts, it is steady - click click click - and can last from several minutes to an hour or more. I felt the outlet and it's cold, so hopefully that rules out a possible electrical fire, but the clicking is so annoying, and often keeps me awake at night (it's not terribly loud, but just loud enough to really get under your skin). Any suggestions on what might be causing this and how to stop it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
ps...there is nothing plugged into this outlet.

hello jen,
sounds like what may be going on here is that the outlet is bad and is arcing between the terminals internily, or is arcing between the hot and box. this normaly will trip a breaker but i have seen it hapen and not trip the breaker. i recomend u let your landloard know abought this and needs to be looked at.
