Dumb garbage disposal question

Hi,
Forgive me for my dumb questions. I don't know much about anything home-improvement related so this is a really basic... We just moved into a 2 yr. old house that has a garbage disposal and I'm kind of wondering about how the thing is wired up. There is wiring under the sink--the disposal is plugged into a metal box (has a faceplate) mounted on the inside cabinet wall. Another box, with the on/off switch, is mounted just inside the cabinet door. So that's OK? Metal electric boxes so close to water (I'm imagining a potential water leak--what if water seeped into one of these boxes?).
Thanks for your help! I told you it was a basic question!

most garbage disposals plug in under the sink.

Unless you have a leak there shouldn't be any water underthere.

Don't worry.

It's okay, but certainly not very convenient. I think it would be worth the effort to move the switch to the wall above the counter a few feet from the sink.
