adding outlets
#1

I'm sure this is a simple question but I know very little about household wiring. I have a new house and am building a workshop in the basement. I have a single outlet coming off of the panel in the workshop area. I want to add more outlets in the workshop. Do I add these in parallel or series and what is the code on spacing and number of outlets for a circuit?
Thanks

Wire them paralell (run the wire from box to
box, connect the incoming, outgoing, and a
pigtail per wire color, the pigtail going
to the recptical). Code says 6 ft, as many
as you want, but for a workshop, I'd have the
bench on one circuit, the other wall on another circuit, and any major shop tool on it's own citcuit maybe, and a separate lighting circuit. All General purpose circuits should be wired with 12/2, with
a 20A breaker, lights 15.

hello slord,
u would wire the outlets in parallel. connect the blacks to the gold screw of the recepts and whites to the silver screw of recepts, and bares 2 the green screw of recepts.
now to answer your ? as to spaceing and #.
the code states that no point along the floor line in any unbroken wall space may exceade 6' between outlets. now what this means is u could put an outlet every 12' on a wall and be legal. this is the max they can be closer. now as to the limet on a circuit, the code states that in a residance there is no limet to # of recepticals that my be on a circuit. but on other hand common since says there is, i try to put no more then 20 on a 20 amp and 15 on a 15 amp.
