Cool

I would appreciate anyones help. I just built a pole barn 75 feet from my home. I want to take electricity to it by use of a sub-panel from my home service panel which has 200 amps. I want to use underground wire. What guage wire should I use and how much amps can I take to the sub-panel. Thanks

I'd run 6/3 60A, get a 60A panel in the barn,
60A breaker in main panel. You never know
when you need expansion. Our barn originally
had a light and outlet circuit, and now has
another 15A outlet, a 20A outlet, and a 220V 15A outlet, and occasionally I'll
temporarily install a 220V 50A outlet for
our welder.

One other rejoiner.
Gary seems to imply but does not state that this cable MUST be UF rated. This means that it is suitable for direct burial. If direct burial, it must be minumum 24". This is not common wire.
If you use conduit, PVC, for example you would use #6 either THW OR THHN both rated for underground use but not direct burial.

hello jvelez,
david is correcton the uf as well as the conduit. if it was me i would install a 100 amp sub in the barn with a 100 amp breaker in the panel at the house id run a 1 1/4" pvc conduit between the 2 and pull in #2 thhn, the cost isnt that much more and as gary stated u never know.
