Flourescent Light Noise

I have numerous flourescent light throughout the house. Most are of the two-tube shop light variety. At times, I can not listen to an AM radio because of the buzz. I have been reading on how such lights work and it seems the noise must be related to either the ballast or the bulb, since there is not much more present.

My wife raises flowers and birds and I use the lights in the workshop, there are lots of lights.

Some times the noise is present, even on a battery operated radio. What is the likely culprit? Can it be repaired? What is the best way to locate the offending fixture?

Thanks.

Your radio is the best test instrument. Just move it around near each light and see where the reception is worst.
