Unhappy

Hello, I just bought a new house in July of 99 which has a ceiling fan in the master bedroom, I think it is a Hunter brand fan. Anyway, it was working fine, but now makes a rattling noise like loose ball bearings after a few minute of being turned on. Can anyone tell me what this might be and how I can fix it? I'm thinking it may jusr be a lubrication issue, but I don't know the first thing about where it should be applied. Also, I notice a loud humming noise when the fan is turned on, is this normal or should it be quieter?

hello Iftinottooswifty,
the hum is normal, unless it is execptionaly loud. as to your rattle im willing to bet your fan is comeing loose from the celling. if u get up there and check every thing and all is tight and it still makes a noise it could be a bareing in the fan.
