I live in a twenty year old condo. Two of the outlets are connected to the light switch. I got one of the outlets to have a 'live' plug and one to be dependent on the switch ('broke' the gold thingie. Also this outlet has a red wire that goes into the back of the outlet) The other outlet had both plug dependent on the switch so I tried to do the same thing, the resulth is that I now have one outlet that is dead (this one does not have a red wire)and one that is dependent on the light switch.
Help please.

This box only has switched power to it. Without running more wire, you cannot make an unswitched outlet in it.

You might be able to have that outlet live,
but give up on having it switched, without rewiring.

First to repair the outlet;
Change it for a new on, and don't break the link this time.

In the other outlet, before you take things
apart, note which half is live,ruen power off, then find which wire is going to the other outlet disconnect it from where it is, and connect it to where the live half of the outlet gets.
it's live power.
where it is live
