replacing ceiling fan

I'm trying to replace an old ceiling fan. The old one has nine wires that run through a plastic coupling device (I think it's called a harness?). The fan I'm trying to put up has only four wires. What goes to what?

You should try to put a new fan connected to part of an old fan. Take down the old fan and install your new fan as a complete component.

If you are trying to replace your fan motor only you will only be able to do this with a like fan motor that is an assigned replacment motor of the old motor.

HOpe this helps
