Dead Outlet

We have an outside outlet that was set up with the low voltage decorative lighting kits for three years. The outlet is now dead - no breakers tripped and there are no other GFI outlets on that breaker to reset. I installed a new outlet and it is still dead - Any ideas?

There is probably a GFCI someplace protecting that outlet. Look in the kitchen, bathroom(s), garage, other oudoor outlets, the room immediately adjacent to the outlet,... Sometimes they can be in the most unlikely places.

14 from 12 = danger?

I added on 15 ft of #14 gauge to a preexisting circuit of #12. The new run is for only a 100 watt light fixture. An electrician told me that this is OK, but one handbook says never run a smaller off a larger gauge, gives 14 and 12 as an example, and warns that this might cause a fire. Whom should I believe?

Dead Outlets

Electrical outlets in 2 bathrooms and one hallway don't work. Checked breaker box and nothing had tripped. What's up with that?
