Question Problem with Light Fixture

This is rather basic, but I wanted to be sure....I just bought a new home and it was built in 1908...I am remodeling one of the bathrooms and the box where I removed the old light has a black, red, and white wire. The new light has two white and two black and one copper ground wire...do I just hook up the white to white and black to black and leave the red alone?

Maybe.

How was the old light connected?

Is there just one wire of each color, and no other wires in the box?

Did the old light have a receptacle too?

Is there just one switch on the wall?
