Grounding question

I checked my ground with my multi meter, when I checked my ground wire with my hot wire, the multi meter read 115 Volts .... is this normal ??? I think some how my ground wire connected to the cold wire ... but I'm not sure, so can any 1 help me out .... THNX

Normal voltage from hot to neutral, or hot to ground is between 110-130V. In order to test the integrety of a grounding conductor, you need a specialized meter.

Ungrounded Outlets and Power Surges

I have ungrounded wiring in my home. For some reason when you hook a volt meter on the positive side of the outlet and to the ground of a surge protector plugged into this ungrounded outlet I get 63 volts. I should get zero. It does the same thing to neg and ground. My house doesn't have ground wire running through it. Can I replace the two prong ungrounded outlet with a three prong outlet and run a heavy gauge shielded copper wire out to a 4 or 5 ft grounding rod driven deep into the ground? Thank you, gfRead More

Haven't there plumbers killed because of ground wires ran to the pipes? Must be because of the ground wires being improperly placed? Like maybe more 5' from the point of entry of the pipe to the earth or a break in the pipe such as a piece of plastic pipe before the pipe reaches the earth?Read More
