Question

I just moved into this house. One of two outdoor lights, controlled by one switch, did not come on. I replaced 100W HP Sodium bulb. Not even a flicker. How do I troubleshoot?

Hi Don,

you may have several possibilities for trouble. Some of these types of fixtures come with their own photocell (dawn to dusk switch) Check to see if this is true, if so, could be the fault.
Check to see if you are getting any voltage in the shell of the fixture (where the bulb is located).
If you are not, or very low voltage, then check in front of the transformer inside the fixture. If you are getting 120 volts here your transformer is dead.
In case you are not getting any voltage here, your problem could be outside of the fixture.
