torque wrench question

I received a 1/2" torque socket wrench for Christmas. Most of the sockets I would use are for a 3/8" drive. If i use this 1/2" wrench with an adaptor to use the 3/8" sockets, will the torque that is set be the same? Or would I be better served exchanging it for a 3/8" wrench? Thanks.

Torque is the same. I would keep the half inch. If you are torguing lug bolts or head bolts you may need half inch sockets. They are a little stronger and go to a larger size. I have both sizes, use the 3/8 most of the time but use the 1/2 on bigger jobs.

I too have a 1/2" and 3/8" torque wrench.

The 3/8" doesn't go high enough to do heads, so you would be better off with a 1/2" if you will be doing automotive work with it.

Just check the range and match it to your job.
