change batteries on dremel

i've had my dremel multipro cordless for a few years now and i think the batteries are dying. when i popped the battery pack open it looked like it was just 6 nicd batteries sodered together in sets of 3. is it ok to just go get some new nicad batteries and solder them in the same format?

--actually i already tried it but the batteries wouldnt stick with the solder. any tips on that?
of course i wont try it again if its not safe to do it since it has to go in the recharger and all...

Soldering batteries is not a safe thing to do and I cannot tell you how to do it.

How I did it though was to wrap the batteries in a damp rag with the end to be soldered exposed
I used a larger iron so I could get in and out fairly quickly and tinned the wires first.
I made sure the wires were connected the same as they were originally.
I made sure I wore safety glasses.

Like I said, I cannot tell you how to do it.
