For a smooth cut 14 tpi would be my choice, faster cut would be had with 12 tpi.

Rule of thumb is a minimum of 3 teeth in contact with material being cut. For softer items and rough cuts (wood typically) you can slip to 2 teeth. Stroke has a little to play in this since you would like the teeth to clear the material so the gullets can empty. To fine a blade will prevent this and the blade will clog up and cut very poorly. Bandsaws will clear the gullet, but can fill before passing through the material and clog also.
