woodworking tools

I'm in the process of turning my garage into a woodworking shop and would like some advice on what tools to stock it with. are there any magazines or articles on the net that rate or compare tools. (I'm planning of building cabinets, bookshelfs ect.) Thanks

Check the archives here, lots of good suggestions in previous posts, but here's a short list.

Table saw
Compound miter saw
Router w/good table
Surface planer
Jointer
Drill press

Having said that, my shop has neither a jointer or planer and I manage some pretty good pieces.

One magazine I highly recommend is August Home's "ShopNotes" - no ads and lots of good info.

I set up a very nice woodworkers shop for one of my Grandsons not long ago and have a suggestion: include a good dust collection system - well worth the expense.

Wood Magazine has an annual issue that rates and compares tools. The other magazines occasionally run a comparison test. Buy the most expensive table saw you can afford. The blade runout and table flatness will be better and it will last you more than a lifetime. After market rip fences (supplied with some good table saws) are another very worthwhile tool.
