Part for battery chgr

Hello!

I burned up the rectifier in my sears battery charger. It is a heavy duty 40 amp charger with 225 amp engine starter. I looked for the part on sears website, but they say it is unavailable. Any idea who made this charger and where I can get the part? It is a model# 934.718460 and the part # for the rectifier is 865-366-000. Thanks for any info you can give me!

cheese:

You could try an electrical motor rewinding shop that also does welders and transformers.
The part you need should be fairly generic.

Thanks Greg!

I'll check around. I guess I could even solder in a different rectifier as long as it was comparable. I hadn't thought of welder/generator shops. THX!

Is that part # on the rectifier? You could try a electronic parts supplier like digikey.

That's not the # on the rectifier, but it is the # that the sears website gives for the rectifier. I have found out that the charger was made by Hitachi. How do I contact digikey? I have a phone# for Hitachi, maybe they can help...dunno.

You probably cannot get the exact part. Many simple parts like bridge rectifiers are 'custom' for a particular manufacturer or a particular application. For a diode or bridge rectifier, the important parameters are PIV (Primary Inverse Voltage) and current rating (amps). Almost any part that is as high or higher for these two items will operate in the circuit.
http://www.digikey.com/ has a couple pages of diodes and rectifiers.

The rectifier will have a number printed on it. That is the number you need to look for at digikey.
