miter saw

I'm looking to buy a compound miter saw. Can anyone recommend a brand to go with. I'm a do it yourselfer, not a contractor. I was looking at the 10" laser compound miter saw made by ryobi and craftsman, both for about $150. Any ideas?

The Craftsman is likely made by Ryobi.
Either would likely work fine for you.

I think you'll like either one. Buy yourself a good quality carbide blade with at least 60 tpi (teeth per inch) for trim and molding work. Use the blade that comes with the saw for rough work.

Alorenzo,
Please reference my thread on Mitre saws: Dewalt vs. Ryobi. Obviously, I'm a novice on mitre saws since I just got mine, so take this for what it's worth.

I would recommend looking at a 12" rather than 10". I'm not sure what kind of work you're planning, but it may be better to spend the extra for a larger saw that would be more suited for future projects. A 10" cannot do a 45 degree miter cut on anything larger than a 2x4.

I eventually ended up getting the Dewalt 705S and I'm very satisfied with my purchase. You've got my two cents!
