Cut angles >135 with miter box

Last weekend I pulled out my compound power miter saw and was all ready to cut some joints for molding. Measured the part to be covered in molding, did some math and decided I needed an angle of 169 degrees.

Went to the mitre saw and started adjusting, turning the wood over and upside down and just about every combination I could think of. Then it finally dawned on me the maximum angle that can be cut with a miter saw is 135 (3x45).

How do I cut an angle of greater than 135 on a miter saw? Is it possible? The only way I can figure is to make a jig to move the stock 45 degrees and then adjust the saw.

Certainly I am not the only one who has ever had a need to cut an angle greater than 135?

You have correctly decribed how to do it. You can also do it on a good table saw with one pass.
