Soldering Iron (Gun)

I believe that my soldering iron is no longer tinned. The tip is dull and the solder just slides off. Is there a way of tinning it or cleaning?

Depends. The tips of many irons (I'm thinking especially of replaceable tips like Weller's temp-controlled ones) are made of iron or something like that. They probably make them that way so they won't bend under pressure and heat the way a soft metal like copper would. If you scrape or tear off the plating, then you can't tin it anymore--just throw it away.
