Sparks,

Good news and no-so-good news.

The nailer you purchased is definitely a quality tool. (Good news)

The not-so-good news is that, one, a lot of communities have code restrictions against clipped-head vs. round-head nails and, two, screws are a far better method of making board attachments on a deck.

Due to the expansion and contraction of wood in any outdoor project, nails, in general, tend to be problematic, the clipped-head style even moreso than the round-head variety.

I would consider looking into a screw gun for decking, perhaps even an auto-feed model depending on how large an extension you intend to build. (I've got the P-C 4634 decking/drywall driver which handles, if memory serves, at least 3" decking screws. Not auto-feed but handles the job very well.)
