Hello: earky

Best thing I have ever found and used is a wire wheel on a bench grinder or table top belt sander. If those power tools are not in your shop or garage, a hand held wire brush or sand paper can be used, just takes long and requires more physical work.

If you need further assistance, use the reply button to add any additional information or ask additional questions. Doing so will automatically move your question to the top of the forum list.

In addition to what Sharp Advice offered, a wire wheel in a drill would work ok.

A quick buffing with a wire wheel and some rust paint and they will look near new.

Just make sure you use eye protection.

After you get them clean, prevent rust from building up again. Clean most of the dirt off your tools then plunge them in a bucket of sand/motor oil mixture.
