a lot of "RUST" on planner==??
I just got a very old and neglected planner ( it's a 8" craftsman I got for 35.00 ) (sweet!!!) it has a lot of rust on it. my table saw was the same way and I cleaned it with CLR & 500 grit sandpaper it also took a lot of rubbing & wiping & a lot of CLR.
So I am wondering if any of you y'all would know of a faster way.
Thanks in advance.

Da Bear,
There are several ways of removing rust but unfortunately none of them are very fast.
A wire wheel on a drill or angle grinder may speed things up. Also, you could use a slightly coarser grit sandpaper.
If you are an experimenter, after taking it apart you could try electrolysis.

wd 40 and a scraper have worked well for me
I buy wd40 by the gallon put a thick coat on and keep it wet for a day (you can cover it with paper towls and soak the paper towl) or two then a scraper will do a good job of taking it down
