mister_two,
A jig saw could be good too but to be honest I personally don't know what "steel suspension railings" are.
If you describe what they look like, if they are solid or hollow and how many you have to cut we might be able to offer more.

I cut steel with my skill saw frequently. H.D. sells 7" Norton metal cutting blades (i get the 10 pack). I sawed through 4"pipe with a 1/4" wall thickness likkitysplit. The saw heats up alot (squirt the metal guard with water) and it shortens its life but oh well? The steel edges need fileing after but its quite a bit faster than hacksaw. Especially if you have a bunch of items to cut.

I ended up using a hacksaw. It wasn't many but I figure if there's an easier way why not go with the easier method. I don't know if it's call unistrut but these steel rails are used to hang kitchen wall cabinets.
