air compressor question

i have a porter cable jetstream horizontal dual tank 135 psi 3hp 4 gallon compressor. my problem is that my framing nail gun seems to not be getting enough air to fully drive in a 16d nail. it does ok with 8d and works as normal with my finishing gun and roofing gun as long as the pressure is set higher than needed. i have had it for about 2yrs. the problem started suddenly and hasn't got better or worse. it sometimes doesn't drain all the way either. any help is greatly appreciated.

Welcome boston25,

A trick I use to check to see if the hose is offering too high a restriction is to make up a really short hose, or if physically able, try to plug the tool directly into the quick connect on the compressor.
Might be hard to do with something as large as a nailer but this would rule out the hose if the gun had full power when connected this way.

Also, the guage could be off and the setting could be too low.
I also use a small in-line pressure guage for measuring pressure right at the spray gun when painting. You could mount a small guage at the nailer to check pressures as well.
They make a small guage and fitting for this purpose which usually isn't very expensive.
