DIY mitre saw stand?
I've seen and borrowed some of the new portable miter saw stands, and for the most part I don't like them. It seems like the support for the workpiece is always in the wrong place. I've also seen some guys on jobs that have made thier own stands that support the entire length of your workpiece. I was wondering if anybody here has plans for something like this. It doesn't need to be easily portable, as long as I can get in the back of my truck if the need arises, but I don't need a built-in shop set up either. Any suggestions? Thanks

I've made a long cutting station out of two 2x4x12's. My miter saw will sit in the middle, and 2x6's ripped to the same depth as my miter saw top raise the level up on either side of the saw. It's a cumbersome contraption that I only set up when doing a BIG trim job, as it sits on a pair of sawhorses. For most work, I prefer to just use 2 adjustable roller stands on each side of my miter saw. I've custom built a couple stands for my miter saws... one out of wood, one out of aluminum. The aluminum one folds up flat, as do my sawhorses.

I would recommend using a couple saw horses (like stated above) for stationary only though....not if you have to move it everyday to and from a truck like you stated. I dont know if you want to spend money but I know Bosch makes a table stand on wheels that folds up and you can fit it in the truck of a bed very conveniently (saw attached to the stand and all). I think its called a gravity rise stand. My brother in law has one, he loves it because it is so damn easy to move around.
