Question power planer

Need to buy a power planer 6 or 8" portable to plane down heavy timbers cut from my woodmizer mill. Do you recommend the makita 6 " power planer or another model?

alpmeadow,

What you use to plane your timbers will depend on what you want to accomplish.
If you want close dimensions and squareness then you will need a stationary planer.
Problem is, depending what sized timbers you are talking about you would need a very heavy duty one.
I have a Delta 12" planer that anything more than a 4x4 becomes too heavy for the drive roller to pull through.
This pretty much leaves a power hand planer as your only real choice if the finish it leaves is good enough.

What size will you be making and for what purpose?
