Tap & die sets

I am looking at tap & die sets. Has anyone ever had any dealings with a Harbor Freight set? I don't need them often enough to warrant $100.00 plus dollars. I have some HF air tools & they are good for limited use. I guess what I'm wondering is do they cut straight threads? Thanks in advance.

I have a harbor freight tap and dye set I bought about 20yrs ago. Great for chasing threads, not sure I ever actually cut threads in new stock with them, not sure I would want to although it may do the job.

I just purchased the $15.00 SAE and the $15.00 Metric sets. Already used the metric to clean the threads on an engine nut. I think that the sets will work fine for cleaning threads, but like Marksr indicated, not too sure about new stock.

They are fine for thread chasing/cleaning
I would not recommend them for cutting new threads

If they will have "limited" usage, I would suggest buying them one at a time for the project needed. Good ones. I have used them and it was a slow process. Broke a few too. Good luck.
