air compressor advice

Hi everybody. Looking into purchasing a Bostich 2hp 6 gallon compressor that is in a kit with a 18 guage brad nailer. The unit is listed as an oilless compressor. Is this good? I don't plan on using it for much more than the occasional project plus airing up tires, basketballs etc. Is there anything else I should be aware of? Would a larger compressor be of any benefit to me? The kit just seems like such a great deal and I'm not sure I need a large capacity air comp. but would like to some opinions first.

Thanks,
John

A friend of one of the kids bought that package a year or so ago and has been well pleased with it. Personally I'm not fond of the oilless compressors [too noisy] but it does make it very portable.

It should work well for what you mention although it would be undersized for a lot of pneumatic tools and useless for any painting. Will the nails the pin nailer can shoot be long enough for your intended projects?

yes, the nails should be fine for most of what I am planning. You mention painting, what is a reccomended size compressor for doing that kind of work? Would this compressor handle a roofing nailer?

Conventional spray guns require a lot of cfm = big motor and large tank. I would think that pancake compressor would work most any nail gun.

John

I've used a very similar compressor from PC with a roofing nailer and did not experience any problems.

Most compressors can handle nail guns, as they don't typically use that much air per unit time. Painting, on the other hand, uses a lot of air.

My boss bought this kit a couple years ago and has been happy with it.
