Quiet Compressor?
Where can I find information on portable air compressors which shows their noise rating? I have a PC pancake oilless and it is very noisy. Thanks in advance.

I personally know of no single source of this info.
I can say however that oilless and direct drive oil filled compressors are the noisiest type made.
Some may be better than others but not by much.
What you want is a belt drive oil filled type.
What makes an belt type quieter is that rpm of the compressor pump is slower.
If you are shopping for a replacement go to where you can hear them run and the differences will quickly become apparent.

I had the PC pancake oilless and I sold it for about 25 cents on the dollar 'cause it was too noisy. Everything else I've seen is more quiet. The guns that came with the kit were good, though.

We make the guys with oilless compressors take them outside while we do trim. Way too noisy. Outside with a piece of plywood between the compressor and the house, come to think of it.
