hole saw trouble

Hello to one and all. I borrowed a Lenox hole saw from a friend yesterday and I'm currently trying to remove the saw from the arbor, but I'm having some difficulty. I'm not very familiar with these things at all, so I'm sure it's something simple. Pure elbow grease isn't doing the trick. Also, there's a little screw on the side that I took out with an allen wrench, but that doesn't seem to be too much help either. I'm posting a link to some pictures I took of the wretched contraption. You can see the hole where the screw was on the bottom picture.

Welcome to our forums r3f0rm47!

That "wretched contraption" is not too hard to deal with.

The screw you removed is only to hold the 1/4" pilot bit.
To remove the saw from the arbor grip the shaft that goes into the drill either in a vice or with a crescent wrench.
With another crescent wrench or open end on the flat of the saw unthread it from the arbor.
It might take a bit of pressure if it's been on the arbor for awhile.

It will turn ccw when looking down on the teeth of the saw.

Yeesh. It took a lot of persuading, but I got a better grip on it as per your instructions and eventually the bugger came off. Thanks.

I hate to bring it up again, but I can't seem to remove the bit from the arbor now. I took out the little screw as per Greg's instructions, but at this point I'm uncertain as to whether the bit is supposed to twist out or slide out.

The best way to remove the bit is from the drill end towards the direction of the front of the saw.
You sometimes need to lubricate with WD-40 or similar and use a pin punch to drive it forward.

The bit should move freely once you loosen the set screw because you sometimes have to adjust it for the depth of the saw.

Edit:
I looked at the pic again and if you can not see the end of the drill bit on the drill end you need to use pliers to twist and pull it out.
