Can a leader hose be used to connect a pressure gauge on an air compressor?
I have two portable air compressors, both of which are missing their pressure gauges. Originally, each had a a pressure gauge attached to a 3/8" NPT coupler. As a convenience and cost savings measure, I was considering only purchasing a single pressure gauge that I would mount to a wall and then use a short run of hose from each tank to the gauge (ideally through a T-fitting [I would only ever run one compressor at a time]).
My question is, is it safe to have a run of hose that has unregulated air going through it? If so, is there any place to buy short lengths of 3/8" hose (less than 10'). So far, I've only run into really short leader hoses (2') and 25'.

most air hose has a high enough burst pressure that you will be fine, one thing that you could do would be to visit a truck supply and purchase a short length of 1/4 in or 3/8 in flex line that they use for different hook ups when the line needs to flex. you usually can also find push to connect fittings for them also to enable easy hook up to your compressors.
all of my air hoses use unregulated air unless i am useing a nailer.

While my 60 gal compressor has a gauge at the unit, there is no regulator until it's piped 20'-25' where the regulator/gauge is mounted on the wall. A short piece of air hose connects the compressor with the pipe. I don't remember where I bought the short piece of hose but I put the ends on it. It has been trouble free for over 15 yrs.

Ahh............So "pressure gauge" means "pressure regulator" ?

Then connecting both compressors to a tee would give him extra air capacity if he ran both units at the same time.
He would only need to plug each compressor into a different electrical circuit.

I have a compressor w/ pressure valve wide open-I have a short std. sears hose running to a water filter w/ pressure regulator--hose is approx. 38 years old & still holding.
I think you will be ok.....................
