Help me to idetify this hand tool

I'm guessing a punch or awl of some kind. Can anyone offer some insight as to what it is?

Looks to be a fid. It is a tool in rope modification, such as making loops, etc. Is one end hollow?

Thanks for the reply. It's not hollow. It's a solid piece of steel.

Wow, nice work, Mango man! Pretty astute to notice that it is likely homemade as well!

A search of google images turns up quite a few results that call it a barrel-type drift pin.

Thumbs up so THAT'S it!

About my first post, I had forgotten to mention that there are no manufacturer marks. The left (big end) is 7/8 " diameter. The right (little end) is 1/2 " diameter.

I'd picked it up at a flea market on a hunch. Having never did metal work, I did not know. Thanks guys! Especially to Mango_man!
