Pull cord won't retract on Craftsman WeedWacker

I have a Craftsman Model 358.791170 33cc WeedWacker Trimmer with a full crank engine. All of a sudden the pull-cord won't retact after I pull it. When I disassembled the pull-cord assembly from the engine it seems to retact just fine.....until I assembled it to the engine again. It just doesn't want to retract if it is attached to the engine. Any suggestions as to the cause and hopefully the fix?????

Craftsman Model 358.791170

I have the exact same problem. I take the housing apart and it works fine. When I put it back together, the cord will not retract. It seems this "sim pull" design has been discontinued because of this problem.

Does anyone have the answer besides returning the unit to Sears?
