Dewalt dw 928 drill

This 14.4 volt drill creates sparks and smoke through its vent during operation. Can this be fixed?

Sure, but it might not be worth it by the time ur done. A new motor is about $21, brushes about $12. Replacing those would probably take you an hour or two.

You can buy just the tool (no batteries) pretty cheap. Or you can watch ebay and get a used one that works (no smoke). Just saw one that looked pretty beat up sell for $10.

Every tool I have ever taken in to the repair shop, I get the same answer. I think they look at how much a new one will cost, and then they tell you that's how much it will cost to fix it.

Thanks

Thanks, XSleeper, I'll look into ebay etc. I always compare the costs of replace or fix, but didn't know if it was even possible in this case.

Too bad, I just shipped both my 14.4 bodies and batteries to my SIL in Denver. Replaced them with the Makita driver/drill combo. Hey, I need tools in Denver, for when I visit.
I did replace the brushes in one of the 14.4 drills and IIRC it wasn't that bad, just keep a tight eye on small parts.

Missed your note

I decided to get new brushes for it and make it a fixit project with my son.

Chandler, I know what you mean by having a tool cache in different places- when I visit various relatives I always bring tools with me, or leave them for next time.
