Dual Action Sander

I have a National Detroit d/a model EZQ Serial #29247 That has a 3m rubber based disc that the sand discs sti.ck to that has started to disintegrate. There is a "push to remove the disc" stamped on a metal ring that has a piece that slides into a notch that locks the dual action feature, and is supposed to allow removal of the disc, but I will be darned if I can get it to come apart, or unscrew to replace the 3m disc. I don't want to use any more force on it without knowing the right way. There were no instructions with it when I bought it.

National Detroit Dual Action Sander

Since I didn't get any replies, I dropped by the Auto Body supply store where I bought the Sander years ago. They grabbed ahold of the motor shaft with a pair of channel locks, slid the "push to unlock " collar into position and muscled the pad out of the threaded hole that it was fastened to. (A new Pad from 3M uses a Velcro Pad and Velcro sanding paper to eliminate the glue that I was using with the old pad. Much more convenient.
