pipe clamp sizes / length
I picked up some Bessey pipe clamps for cheap.... 2 x 3/4" and 2 x1/2"....
Im not a woodworker but couldn't pass the deal up and I am sure to clamp something done the road....
what length of pipe should I have cut and threaded for these clamps?

Likewise, I have a couple of 8 footers, some 2 footers, and a bunch of 4 footers and 5 footers. You can never have too many pipe clamps, according to Norm Abrams. It just depends on what you do with them. Cabinets, 4 footers would work in most cases. Some of the newer ones you don't even need threading. But if you buy pipe and have it cut, in the other cases you only need one end threaded.

Gonna need to thread both sides if I do the coupling thing. That was the method I was thinking, but I wasn't sure of the length. 2' seems right.
Whats cheaper, galvanized or black gas?

Black is cheaper and better. You want the clutch plates to bite into soft steel, not hard zink coating. Keep in mind, long pipe (even 3/4) will flex under clamping pressure to a point where it will contact the surface you've just sanded
Protect it with a clean rag or something.
