Deciding Between DeWalt DWS779 & DWS709 Miter Saw

Hi, I'm trying to decide between the DeWalt DWS779 & DWS709 Miter Saws. Apart from the dual compound cut ability of the DWS709 I can't quite find any other differences.

DWS779: DEWALT 15 Amp 12 in. Sliding Compound Miter Saw-DWS779 - The Home Depot

DWS709: DEWALT 15 Amp 12 in. Dual Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw-DWS709 - The Home Depot

I need a sliding miter saw because I want to also be able to cut stock that's 12" in width. It can be 10in or 12in. I don't need the dual compound ability, but I guess it won't hurt having it.

You would probably need to look at them side by side in person. Or print out the specs and compare.

From a user on another site:

The 779 has the following features that the 709 does not:

-Top carry handle (709 has to be lifted from bottom; clumsy to move @50ish lbs)
-Adjustable depth stop (709 has none at all)
-Bevel stops at 22.5˚ and 33.86˚ (for quick cuts @ common sizes/709 has none at all)
-Cam lock handle (this was a BIG deal; no more twist knob!)
-2 slide locks (making it a non-slider and safe for transit)

In short, yes- it's the 780 w/out the XPS light.

My thoughts: Additionally, the 709 is about 17 lbs lighter... wonder how the heck they did that if they are so similar... dewalt is good at making a great product inferior by using lightweight and plastic where it could have been heavier duty.

I have the DWS780XPS and am very pleased with it. It is heavy, so good thing I'm a man.
