Possible to repair old floor jack?

I have an old 30-35 year old hydraulic car jack that has no identification on it of any sort. Only thing on the plate is "Hydraulic Trolley Jack," 3000 LB and Made in Taiwan. It stopped working several years ago and now I'm contemplating fixing it or getting rid of it. I'm posting a photo of it here to see if anyone might have an idea of the manufacturer. I believe that the problem is in the piston, because when I took it apart I found lots of what looked like small broken white plastic pieces. Might have been to a plastic gasket? Included is a photo of the jack and the piston.

Anyone see one like this? If so, might it have had a plastic gasket, an O-ring, or both? If it's a simple gasket replacement (depending on whether or not I could even find the right one), this might be an easy fix. If not, maybe I'll get a few bucks from the salvage yard. Thanks.

 

Try to find a rubber O ring or gasket to go around that shaft & fill it with hydraulic oil. If it doesn't work put it on the curb. Scrap prices are so low, you aren't going to get any money for it.

 

I've got an old harbor freight floor jack that I've rebuilt twice, the first rebuild lasted about 5 yrs or so but it never did work great after the 2nd rebuild so I bought a new one. I'm sure it can still be rebuilt but I ran out of time and patience. Often just replacing the O rings is all they need [along with fluid]

 

I just junked my 30 -40 year old jack, Rebuilt a couple times but did not feel like messing with it anymore. Answer your question can be done find hydraulic repair shop and they should be able to match seals.

 

My HF jack was about 35 yrs old when I replaced it. I figured to buy another from HF but the reviews were awful .... but ultimately that is what I bought. The first one leaked down and I returned it but the replacement has been working fine for 1.5 yrs.
