questions about a flex shaft

I have a dremel 100 drill that I use for detailed jewelry work. But I am wondering if a flex shaft would somehow be better for my purposes. So I am wondering if a flex shaft that attaches to the drill would give it more RPMs or what the advantage might be since most jewelry repair places use a flex shaft but the kind with a foot control for RPMs. I know that one advantage would be that it would be easier to hold while working than a drill. But anyone know about flex shafts?

You have the handheld Dremel. A flexible shaft is usually used on a suspended motor unit so that you don't have to hold the weight of the tool while working. The flex shaft transmit the same speed. It doesn't increase or decrease the RPM's. I don't think it would be practical on a hand held tool but they do make one that attaches to it.

The picture is a typical setup for easier use.
