Grizzly 1019 bandsaw: jumping off track

I inherited this bandsaw.
I downloaded the manual from the net, read it, and followed the adjustment setting to what I thought was a T.
I gave it power and the blade instantly jumped off.

-When I hand spin it in the cutting direction, it tracks on the tires nicely, when I spin it in reverse it wants to jump of the back of the tires.
-I used a straight edge, the wheels seem to be co-planar.
-The tension scale on this model is iffy at best. The tension is the variable I am most uncertain about.

Howdy, and welcome if someone hasn't already said it. I'm not a band saw expert, but work with quite a variety of equipment, and will say that for something that appears at first glance to be so simple aligning a band saw blade can sometimes take a little time. How are your wheel bearings? Runout is good? How do your tires look? You said that you went through the manual so I assume so, but did you back off your guide bearings so that they're not throwing you off and then reset them?

Did you try a NEW (2nd) blade? A stretched-out old blade might cause strange behavior CW vs CCW.
