Chain Saw Blade Brake

The handle brake on my Poulan P3816 locked in the forward (braked) position and won't move forward or backward. It has NOT locked the blade and the saw can still be used, I just can't stop the blade using the brake handle. In looking at the blow up diagram, there appears to be a flat spring and a braking assembly. Does anyone have any experience with these and whether the problem would be the whole brake assembly ($20+) or the flat spring ($3+) or possibly something else?

I'd take it apart and investigate first. It's quite possible there is just sawdust or a chip of wood stopping it's operation.

Pneumatic Brad Nailer Recommendation

Hello All, I'm building some boxes out of 4/4 hickory and walnut and to nail the mitre joints on my trusty old 18v ryobi nailer can't sink the 1" brads through the hardwood. Does anyone have any recommendations for a pneumatic nailer that will work? Preferences on one model over another? I called some manufacturers and got the following recommendations: Dewalt/Bostich: DWFP12231 and BT1855k Senco FinishPro 25xp I've always been a big fan of Senco, but at $164 it's 2-3 times the price of the other recommendations. Senco said the lesser model would not consistently sink the nails. That raises the question of can the Dewalt and Bostitch models do it for less? Does anyone have any first hand experience or insight?Read More

Which Size Compound Sliding Miter Saw ?

I am in the market for a miter saw and would like to get some input on a 7 1/4 vs 10 inch. The saw would be used for general DIY jobs around the house and would get light to moderate use. Portability is somewhat of an requirement, it will need to be carried up a flight of basement stairs to go outside occasionally . Upcoming jobs are stair hand rails for the garage and deck using a 4 x 4 post , and replacement of 5/4 x 6 " trim. Currently considering the Kobalt 7 1/4 an 10 inch. The 7 1/4 looks like it has a decently powerful motor from the videos I have seen, which is typically a problem with the small saws.Read More
