Need Tool Belt Recommendation

I'm a Habitat volunteer and I've hated my leather tool belt since day one. Weight and comfort are top priorities. I also prefer one that allows you to carry a hammer on the side instead of the back. Suspenders/shoulder straps are also a must.
Any brands that you recommend?
Thanks.

What phases of construction are your specialty? How many pockets?

No real specialty. We’re all a bunch of “jacks of all trades”. I think 4 pockets will be sufficient.

I'd suggest going to the store and see what they have. You ought to be able to try out what they have in the store, obviously it won't have the weight of the tools and such but that ought to give you a good idea of how it will suit you. I always thought the suspenders were sold separately.

It's hard to beat the Occidental Leather suspenders and tool belts. Hard to afford them too, unfortunately.

Sleeper & Mark, thanks for the reply. The Occidental stuff looks great but hard for me to justify using it a day or 2 a week. I've read reviews of the tool belts Lows and Home Depot carry but like so many other things, there can be a wide range of opinions on a given item. Mark, you point out an important shortcoming of trying on belts in a store. Big difference between an empty and loaded tool belt.

That seems worth it to me.

I do not use suspenders on my tool belt. I only load with what tools I need for the job on that particular day. A belt with option to move pockets and hammer loop to different positions works well for me.

Good luck with your choice and thanks for being a Habitat volunteer.

For what they cost, Toughbuilt suspenders aren't bad. You will need the belt loops and you can pretty much hook any rig up to them.

Whatever you get, make sure there's nothing that hangs directly in front, like a 35 ft tape measure (assuming you are male). NOT a good design!
