Name this tool

For the life of me I can't remember the proper name of this type of drill. Had for many years. Used only occasionally. Son wants to borrow it for a Boy Scout demonstration to teach kids about hand tools.

Got it. Bit Brace. But I believe it has other names also.

Ya, bit and brace. There was another one that came after it that had a handle you turn but I don't remember it's name other than hand drill.

You may thinking of the Schroeder Hand Drill. I use to have one of these but I lost it many years ago. Wish I still had it.

I had both. They were inherited from my father. I never used them but couldn't throw them away.

We had both when I was a boy at home. I've used them both many times until I became an adult & bought my own power drill. I remember using the bit & brace more so than the other one.

I used my father's hand drill a lot as a kid. He didn't have a bit and brace but his father did. My grandfather was a master carpenter but never owned any power tools. I bought my bit and brace at a flea market 30+ yrs ago. Have only used it a few times but I like owning it.
