I have a 20 ton bottle jack and can't seem to get the piston to go all the way down after openning the release valve. It only drops as much as the weight it is bearing pushes it down. How do I get it to go down all the way? Would this be due to dirt, grease, grime being on the outside of the piston? Thanks!

I would bet on it. Had same problem with bottle jack left under the house for a while. I sanded the piston and put a little oil on it. Guess I should have blown sanding debri with air hose now that I think about it to keep the debris from harming seal. Been a while. Maybe I placed a rag at bottom, not sure. Time will tell, I guess. Anyway it helped immediate problem.
