router

Occasionally I want to use my plunge router with my el-cheapo router table. Since it won't "hold" itself in place upside down, I use a piece of 2x4 and a wedge, but that just doesn't cut it. Ryobi does not have a accessory for this model. I would appreciate any advice, short of buying a new router.

Yep,
Buy a router plate, phenolic or alumunum, to fit your router.
