Moving Zones on a DSC 1550
#1

I add a new zone to an existing system and the light for that zone is on all the time, I moved to another location on the board and the same happen, now is in zone 5 and to arm the alarm the zone has to be bypass, can the new sensor be connected to another in paralel and will it work? Is the dialer in the board ready to be used or it needs a modem or other parts?
Thanks

Well, first of all, it depends on what kind of sensor you have installed. Normally open or normally closed, if you don't know, call a technician. If you have normally open contacts, then you would connect it in parrallel to the other contacts on that zone, but they must all be normally open contacts (ie: 4-wire smokes use normally open loops.) You must also use an EOL resistor (in parrallel) for the zone to work properly, whether you have supervision or not. Also, you must make sure your zone is programmed properly in field 11.
Now, if you're using normally closed contacts (which most door/window contacts are) then you would connect multiple door/windows in series, not parrallel, otherwise they would all have to be open to trip the alarm. If you have supervision enabled, you have to have an EOL resistor in series with the contacts also. If your zone light is showing open, my guess is that either you have a bad contact, you haven't programmed the zone properly, or your mixing normally open/normally closed contacts. But there are several problems that you could have (bad wires, bad connections, no magnets, etc etc etc.) If you don't know where to start, call a technician, it will save you a lot of money and headache.
